Sharpen your own knives with the HORL 3 Cruise. A sharp knife makes preparing food and barbecuing much more enjoyable. With the HORL 3 Cruise Knife Sharpener, you can easily keep your kitchen knives and BBQ knives sharp yourself. The system combines a rolling sharpener with a magnetic sharpening angle holder. This allows you to sharpen knives at a fixed angle, without complicated sharpening techniques. The HORL 3 Cruise is an accessible choice for anyone who wants to properly maintain their knives at home.
The magnetic sharpening aid has two fixed sharpening angles. At 15° , you create a fine edge, for example for suitable Japanese kitchen knives. The 20° sharpening angle is intended for a more robust edge, such as with many European chef's knives and certain outdoor knives. The strong magnets hold the knife against the holder, while the HORL Grip Pad provides extra grip. This allows you to maintain the chosen sharpening angle well during sharpening.
Sharpening with diamond and finishing with stainless steel. The HORL 3 Cruise features a standard diamond grinding wheel to remove material from the cutting edge. Afterwards, you use the stainless steel deburring wheel to smooth both sides of the edge. The grinding wheels are fixed and non-interchangeable. Consequently, the Cruise cannot be upgraded with the HORL 3 Premium Sharpening Set or other interchangeable HORL grinding wheels.
First, select the correct sharpening angle for your knife and place it with the back against the magnetic holder on a stable surface. Gently move the rolling knife sharpener back and forth along the entire edge with the diamond grinding wheel. Turn the knife over and repeat the sharpening on the other side. Then, use the stainless steel deburring wheel to finish both sides. HORL recommends using a large non-slip cutting board as a base to protect your work surface from grinding dust and contact with the sharpener.
Handy tip for an even sharpening result. Do you want to check if you have fully applied a new sharpening angle? Then color both sides of the edge beforehand with a felt-tip pen. Sharpen until the marking has disappeared. This way, you can check whether the chosen sharpening angle has been achieved over the entire edge. For maintenance, remove sharpening dust with a slightly damp cloth, clean the sharpening discs with a regular eraser if necessary, and store the knife sharpener dry.
The HORL 3 Cruise is the simpler version within the HORL 3 series. It has the same sharpening angles of 15° and 20°, but differs in material and features. The Cruise has a sand-colored housing made of recycled plastic and a fixed stainless steel deburring disc. The HORL 3 Oak Knife Sharpener and HORL 3 Walnut Knife Sharpener are made of solid wood and feature a ceramic deburring disc and interchangeable sharpening discs via HORL Quick Lock.
Which HORL knife sharpener suits you? Do you want to keep your knives sharp in a simple way and do you have no need for additional sharpening wheels? Then the HORL 3 Cruise is a practical choice. If you want to be able to expand with finer sharpening stones later, we recommend the HORL 3 Oak or Walnut. At BBQ Valley Venlo, we are happy to help you choose the right knife sharpener for your knives and usage.

The HORL 3 Cruise has two sharpening angles. 15° is intended for a fine edge and 20° for a more robust edge.
The best sharpening angle depends on the type of knife and the original sharpening angle. Therefore, it is preferable to check which angle the knife manufacturer recommends.
No. The HORL 3 Cruise has a fixed diamond grinding wheel and stainless steel deburring wheel. These are not intended to be interchangeable.
The HORL 3 Cruise is therefore not suitable for the interchangeable grinding discs or the Premium Sharpening Set of the HORL 3. If you want to be able to use different grinding discs, the HORL 3 Oak or Walnut are better choices.
HORL recommends a simple check method using a felt-tip pen. Color the cut on both sides beforehand and then grind with the diamond grinding wheel.
When the marking has completely disappeared, the selected grinding angle has been applied to the cut. Then finish both sides with the stainless steel deburring disc.
Yes, the HORL 3 Cruise is suitable for many Japanese kitchen knives with a smooth edge. The sharpening angle of 15° may be suitable for knives that were originally sharpened at a fine angle.
Not every Japanese knife has the same sharpening angle or blade shape. Therefore, always check the manufacturer's sharpening advice before you begin.
The HORL 3 Cruise is designed for knives with a smooth edge . Traditional serrated knives, such as many bread knives, typically require special sharpening tools.
Therefore, do not use the HORL 3 Cruise directly on a serrated blade. First check the recommended sharpening method for your knife.
Remove grinding dust regularly with a slightly damp cloth and store the HORL 3 Cruise in a dry place. According to HORL, the grinding discs can be cleaned with a regular eraser.
Preferably use a large non-slip cutting board as a surface while sharpening. This protects your work surface. Also, thoroughly clean the knife and the workspace after use.
